Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced the industry’s first Gen 6 Fibre Channel directors for mission-critical storage connectivity and business resiliency solutions designed for the all-flash data center.  This extends the company’s leadership in offering the industry’s most innovative and widely deployed Fibre Channel storage network solutions, building on the first Gen 6 Fibre Channel switch that Brocade delivered in March 2016.  The new Brocade® X6 director family and the Brocade SX6 extension blade for Fibre Channel, Fibre Connection (FICON) and IP storage replication, combined with Brocade Fabric Vision™ technology, enables customers to drive always-on business operations, eliminate performance bottlenecks and adapt to the requirements of digital organizations.

APAC markets has risen 97% since 2015

Hong Kong, 14 July, 2016 – GlobalWebIndex (GWI), operator of the world’s largest study on digital consumer behaviors and trends, has revealed that between the first half of 2015 and the first half of 2016, WeChat has almost doubled its usage rates in APAC outside of China.

GWI’s report found that WeChat’s growth has been particularly strong in South Korea (up more than 300%), in the Philippines (up 150%), Malaysia (up 60%) and Indonesia (up 79%). GWI has also found that WeChat is the fastest growing messaging app in Australia, where it has grown 284%.

igital enthusiasts in APAC love WeChat

During their research, GWI discovered several key digital behaviors of WeChat users across APAC outside China. Top findings include:

  • 3 in 4 WeChat users are under 34 (a third are aged 16-24)
  • This group spends an average of 3.5 hours on the mobile internet a day
  • They are highly enthusiastic about online commerce – 87% of WeChat users shop online. 75% buy digital content every month (including 21% who make in-app purchases)
  • This audience are extremely engaged with digital content consumption – 6 in 10 are watching TV, 58% watch vlogger videos and 86% are now using music streaming services (across all these metrics, WeChat users are significantly ahead of users of other messaging apps).
  • Half of WeChat users in Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Hong Kong follow brands on social media.

WeChat posts higher usage scores than competitors across APAC

While WeChat is a juggernaut in China (where 83% of online adults are WeChat users), competition within the industry in other Asian markets has been fierce. WeChat is proving itself across APAC.

WeChat now posts higher usage scores than many other messaging apps in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Philippines and Singapore – and in Malaysia 55% of internet users are WeChatting each month. Furthermore, the enthusiasm among many of these new WeChat users is notable – in Hong Kong, 60% of WeChatters are using the service daily, while in Malaysia it’s 65% of WeChat users who access the platform each day.

GWI’s research also shows that WeChat membership rates continue to grow in these markets. Today, 58% of Hongkongers have a WeChat account. WeChat membership levels have also reached 47% among online adults in India, 45% in Indonesia and has hit two thirds among the online population of Malaysia. The competition in these markets, where young, digitally-engaged internet users represent an important opportunity for brands, is a key trend to watch.
